A NEW police piloting scheme which could potentially save time and money is to be trialled in Trowbridge and Warminster later this year.

The Operational Policing Pilot, which will be the first in Wiltshire, will take effect from September 14 and will involve a community team model which will provide a one team policing service to the area.

Speaking at a Warminster Town Council meeting on Monday, Sergeant Sean Brady said: “It’s going to mean a different approach to the way we work and there will be a slight change in some areas, but at the same time it will get more police in Warminster.

“More importantly though, it will change the way we actually deal with calls as instead of it being fed into a system, it will be done by your local police team.

“Hopefully this will mean a faster response to things that happen and that one officer will be responsible for that job from start to finish.”

The scheme will also cover Bradford on Avon, Westbury, Tisbury and Mere and is due to last ten weeks.
