A WOMAN has died after the Porsche she was a passenger in collided with a lorry near Box last night.

Police say two Porsche cars were travelling just after 7.30pm along the A4 from Bathford towards Box.

As one of the sports cars negotiated the S-bend at the Box Bridge it collided with a lorry coming in the opposite direction.

The passenger of the Porsche was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath with suspected broken ribs and a head injury.

The lorry driver has been treated for shock and the A4 Bath Road was closed from the junction with the B363 Bathford to Box for seven hours.

Sgt Bill Monk, from Wiltshire Police headquarters in Devizes, said: “At 19.32 hours on Friday 17th July 2015, two Porsche cars were travelling on the A4 from Bathford towards Box.

“As they negotiated the S-bends at the Box bridge, for reasons unknown, one of the vehicles entered the other carriageway and directly in the path of a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

“A female passenger of the car, a local female, was pronounced dead at the scene and the male driver’s been taken to the RUH suffering from broken ribs and a head injury, although not serious.

“The driver of the lorry has been treated for shock.

“Officers from the tri-force serious collision investigation team attended the scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the collision. The road was closed to traffic for seven hours to enable a scene examination to take place and to recover the vehicles.

“PC 1355 Tate from the serious investigation collision team is leading the inquiry and would like to hear from anyone who may be able to assist in the investigation and collision. He can be contacted on 101 at the Avon and Somerset Constabulary.”

The fatal collision follows a spate of accidents Wiltshire Police has been called to in the last week.

Philip Butler, 61, and Jennifer Jones, 28, both from Westbury, died when the Ford Mustang Mr Butler was driving on the A36 near Crockerton on Monday collided with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

On Wednesday, a motorcyclist was taken to hospital with a suspected broken pelvis following a collision with a car on the A365 between Box and Corsham.

Yesterday, a Melksham man was seriously hurt and sustained a serious head injury and collapsed lung when he was cycling on the A419 near Blunsdon and fell into the carriageway. He was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.
