COSTA Coffee wants to expand its presence in Chippenham with a new outlet at the Bath Road Retail Park.

The popular coffee chain has submitted documents to Wiltshire Council requesting planning permission for a new store in the retail park’s car park opposite TX Maxx and Next.

The new single-storey coffee shop would operate in addition to the chain’s existing store in the High Street.

In the submitted plans, Costa have said the new outlet would bring between 12 and 15 full and part time jobs to the town.

A Costa spokesman said: “As the UK’s favourite coffee shop and one of the success stories on the UK high street, we work closely with planning departments across the country to open new stores for the benefit of their local communities, creating new jobs and providing attractive and popular social meeting places.

“We are currently evaluating opportunities in the Bath Road, Chippenham area, but have no firm plans in place at this stage.”

The firm hopes that with a replacement and rebalancing of parking spaces, currently at 194, would only result in a net loss of two spaces following the development.

The plans include an external seating area, four cycle spaces, three motorcycle spaces and new hard landscaping.

Costa has also said that the new development would not disrupt plans for a refurbishment of its High Street store which are due to take place in August.

Earlier this month, residents were delight with plans for an M&S Simply Food store in the empty unit at the Bath Road Retail Park at a public exhibition.
