A MAN suffered life-changing injuries in an alleged road rage incident in Melksham.

Police say the 59-year-old man from Pewsey was walking on a grass verge when a car approached and the driver sounded its horn.

Eyewitnesses said the car slowed down then picked up speed, hitting the man who went flying across the bonnet before hitting the ground.

The car failed to stop, but an eyewitness took a photograph of the number plate on his mobile phone, which has been passed to police.

The man sustained a head injury in the incident on August 4 and was still recovering in hospital this week.

He was initially taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath by ambulance before being transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where his condition is said to be stable.

The incident happened at around 3.40pm near the Farmer's Roundabout on the A350 in Melksham and police are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.

Detective Constable Kevin Golledge, from Wiltshire Police, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or out of the ordinary on this date and around this time at what is a very busy road and junction. Someone is bound to have seen something.

“Anyone with any information should call me on 101 or, if you wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
