PONY rides and a farm trail competition were among the activities that visitors to Larkrise Community Farm could enjoy on Saturday for the charity’s inaugural open day event.

The event was held to celebrate 10 years since the Trowbridge organisation moved to its new premises in West Ashton Road, after initially starting off life at Larkrise Special School in 1987.

Larkrise Community Farm aims to provide education and recreation facilities for youngsters who have been referred to the charity for a variety of reasons; including learning difficulties, disability or social and economic circumstances.

The open day, which was opened by Town Crier Trevor Heeks, gave visitors an opportunity to find out more about the charity, while children could enjoy activities such as pony rides.

Chairman of the Trustees for Larkrise Community Farm Sue Bradbrooke said: “Blessed with glorious sunshine, Larkrise Community Farm held an Open Day on Saturday to celebrate 10 years at our present site on West Ashton Road.

“Officially opened by Trowbridge Town Crier Trevor Heeks, who has a close association with the farm, there was plenty to see and do apart from the usual attraction of all the farm animals.

“There were pony rides, a farm trail competition, tack sale and tombola, while stalls included plants, jewellery, bric-a-brac, cakes, produce and much more.

“The West Ashton W.I. provided tea and delicious homemade cakes and there were ice-creams and burgers too. Larkrise is considering holding this as an annual event, but anyone is welcome to visit the farm on a weekday.”

Visitors are welcome to visit the farm Monday to Friday from 10pm-3pm. For more information, visit www.larkrisefarm.org.uk
