A NEW £6.1million specialist dementia care home for people in Trowbridge has been commissioned by The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT).

The 64-bed care home will be constructed by Stepnell and will be built on the site of the existing empty 1970s Paddocks care home off Hilperton Road.

The existing building will be demolished and work on the 3,600 square metre two-storey development is expected to be completed by autumn 2016.

Richard Dooley, assistant development director at OSJCT says: “We are pleased to be building this new care home in Trowbridge, and are sure it will be of great benefit to the local community.

“We have worked with Stepnell on several of our recent development projects, both in Wiltshire and elsewhere, and are pleased to be continuing our professional relationship, which has resulted in high-quality, innovative care facilities where people are happy to live and work.”

There will also be communal facilities at the care home, including a cafe, hair salon, shop and cinema as well as 25 parking spaces and landscaping.

The scheme is the latest care home to be built by Stepnell for OSJCT. Previous projects completed by Stepnell for OSJCT in Wiltshire include Athelstan House care home in Malmesbury and Hayward Care Centre in Corn Croft Lane, Devizes, as well as care home developments in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and Grantham, Lincolnshire.

Stepnell joint managing director Tom Wakeford says: “We are delighted to be once again working with OSJCT and look forward to helping deliver this leading-edge specialist dementia care facility for the local community in Trowbridge and the surrounding area.

“Stepnell has a strong record of providing high-quality residential facilities built to the most demanding standards and our team is excited to be bringing their expertise to this important development.”
