HILPERTON villagers turned out in force on Sunday for the village’s annual fruit and vegetable show, with produce from village gardens and allotment holders on display in the village hall.

Alongside the prize-winning runner beans, carrots and potatoes there were also classes in handicrafts like knitting, sewing and photography, as well as a new section this year for eggs, reflecting the growing interest locally in keeping chickens.

A children’s class for decorated eggs was especially well supported thanks to a clutch of entries from the St Michael’s Pre-school.

Baking was not forgotten, with entries in classes for sponge cakes, shortbread and preserves.

The show was organised by the village hall, with profits going to village hall funds, including the proceeds from an auction of produce held at the end of the day.

Organisers estimated around 250 people visited the show during the day, and said it was particularly nice to see several generations of families entering the various classes, and then visiting to admire the displays and enjoy tea and homemade cakes.
