THINGS did not go to plan for one man when he took his date to fast food chain McDonald’s in Trowbridge on Thursday evening, after he was arrested and had his car impounded.

Officers said they interrupted the romantic meal for two after spotting that the registration plate of the car the man was driving did not match the model of the car it was supposed to be for.

He was arrested on suspicion of theft, possessing an article for fraud and driving with no insurance and was taken to Melksham Police Station, leaving his other half to make her own way home from the restaurant in Bradley Road.

“A disappointing date for a young lady from Frome who was taken to Trowbridge McDonalds this evening,” said a post on Trowbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team’s Facebook page.

“Whilst sat in her fiancé’s car tucking into her takeaway a local patrol noticed the car was on false plates, and uninsured. Fiancé was arrested on suspicion of theft, possessing an article for fraud, and no insurance. The car was seized leaving the young lady to make her own way home.”

“He didn't finish his milkshake,” the officer added, before confirming that police made sure the woman was safe and able to get back home. “She sat inside McDonalds until a friend came to pick her up.”
