LITTLE was known about Helen Coe, who died in late July, but those who did know her described her as ‘eccentric’, a ‘colourful character’ and a lover of all things ‘wacky’.

The Bradford on Avon resident, Ms Coe, 62, was rushed to Royal United Hospital, Bath, with a ruptured appendix. She later died from septicaemia.

A lover of bohemian artefacts, Ms Coe was in the antiques trade for more than three decades and regularly frequented the antique flea market at St Margaret’s Hall, Bradford on Avon, at the end of every month.

Known as an avid charity shop visitor, Ms Coe was more often than not found popping in and out of the Swan Hotel, inviting people for a glass of wine.

She was known for wearing quirky clothing and hats that she purchased from local charity shops, most notably Dorothy House in Winsley, for which she was a keen supporter.

Helen Murray, a long-time friend and colleague in the antiques trade at Guinea Lane, Bath, spoke of how they frequently traded items with one another.

“I will miss her, she was a very sweet woman,” said Mrs Murray. “She was always interested in others. She had this presence about her. It doesn’t feel the same without seeing her in the charity shops she loved very much.”

A memorial tribute with flowers was held at Packhorse Bridge, Bradford on Avon on September 27 to celebrate her life.
