EQUIPMENT worth hundreds of pounds was stolen from Semington Football Club this week – the second time the community club has been raided in just under three months.

It is believed that the changing rooms at Little Marsh, where both Semington Magpies and Semington FC are based, were broken into sometime between Sunday at 7pm and Tuesday.

A post to the club’s Facebook page on Tuesday revealed that equipment, including footballs, goal nets, corner flags and training gear, had been taken and appealed for help replacing it.

It is the second time in three months that the club has been raided, with gear also stolen from the club at the beginning of July during a charity night in aid of Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Cancer Research UK.

Allan Clarke, a senior player at the club, said: “This equipment is not cheap and it all adds up. When you run a local football club, you don’t do it to make money, as all the funds goes towards keeping the club going during the season.

“The club is run on a shoestring and incidents like this make it incredibly difficult for the club to continue. It’s unbelievably frustrating for everyone and a lot of hard work has just been put in to starting up the Sunday team again.

“As a result of the Facebook post, we have had people coming forward offering to help us out with equipment, which is great, and the more support we can get from the community the better.”
