MUM Jayne and her husband Phillip Abbott are hoping the town will get behind them later this month when they hold the fourth Rickfest music festival in memory of her son.

The annual fundraiser was set up in tribute to Jayne’s son Rick Mills, who died aged 19 in 2002 from injuries suffered in a fall off a sun terrace in Madeira.

Mrs Abbott said: “The first year was a small affair but I think from the small beginning it has grown.

“Every year we say we’re not going to do it again but it gets better every year and we get more and more people coming along.

“We’ve had quite a lot of interest for this year but people leave it to the last minute to buy tickets so it’s just a question of holding out but people seem pretty keen to try and get along to it.”

This year’s festival will take place on October 24 at the Westbury Labour Club in Haynes Road from 2pm-12.30am and will feature tribute acts, including Bon Giovi (Bon Jovi), The Modfathers (Paul Weller) and Will Kinn (Robbie Williams).

There will also be music from West Country acts Phil Cooper, The Vooz, Broken Image, Hop Back Blues, Thee Ones and Lightnin’ Hobos.

All funds raised will go to the Rainbow Trust, which supports the families of children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses. Mrs Abbott is a support worker.

The 55-year-old said: “I’ve been working for seven years for Rainbow Trust which came about because my son was hurt and I just thought of getting involved with a charity that helps families and their children.

“We managed to raise £1,000 for them last year so it would be great if we could match that or get even more.

“We will have a number of tribute bands, including a Bon Jovi one because that was my son’s favourite music.”
