MCDONALD’S in Trowbridge has reopened following a £400,000 investment into new technology by franchisee Mike Guerin.

The new features, which include state-of-the-art self-order kiosks, will give customers a new experience when choosing and ordering their food at the restaurant by allowing them to browse the entire menu as well as look at the nutritional information.

Mr Guerin, who runs 12 restaurants across Bristol, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, said: “People have been very positive and it is a new venture which is keeping up with the times moving forward.

“I joined McDonald’s as a bright-eyed trainee manager and there were only 28 restaurants in the country at that time. I have to say, within that long tenure in McDonald’s, I have never seen as big changes over that time to what we have done in the last 12 months.

“Kiosk ordering gives our customers the chance to have a look at our choice.

“Visits to McDonald’s can be stressful especially when you bring the kids in and we are in a rush trying to get orders out and sometimes you don’t get the time to properly look over the menu and so these kiosks are aimed at making it a more pleasant service.”

An additional feature following the investment is a new layout kitchen along with free to use tablets which have been installed at some tables and Mr Guerin is now looking into the idea of adding power points to the restaurant.

He is also hoping to bring in table service in years to come.

Mr Guerin added: “I think table service compliments the kiosks as you can select what you want and then wait for the food to come to you and so the pressure is off for the customer.”

The 57-year-old who lives in Bath, started his career more than 37 years ago and his restaurants now contribute £13.5m to the local economy by employing nearly 1,000 people.

Mr Guerin, who became franchisee for the Trowbridge restaurant three years ago, added that he hopes the branch grows with both technology and products but also staffing opportunities.

He said: “To ensure we continue to create an outstanding customer experience, I am also continuing to invest in my people through our industry-leading training programmes and career opportunities.”
