THE Trowbridge Guild run two minibuses taking the elderly, the disabled, including many who need a wheelchair and people with visual impairment, as well as those with learning difficulties to their luncheon clubs, their disability clubs, shopping and the occasional outing, where necessary giving a door to door service. In total the numbers amount to well over 200 per week, all of whom find many benefits in these outings.

The scheme, which has been running for nearly 40 years, is the responsibility of volunteers, but day to day running is in the hands of an excellent part time manager and the drivers are paid.

However we are absolutely dependent on the dedicated team of volunteers who find great satisfaction in running this essential service for our clients, but we are very much in need of younger members with new ideas to freshen up the service.

At the present time, because of illness, we are particularly looking for a secretary, a deputy treasurer, deputy chairman and a couple of other people to sit on the committee and take responsibility when the need arises. The tasks are not too demanding on time; we meet as a committee four times a year and individual members have to attend other occasional meetings. We need someone with the necessary computer skills to update our records and bring the guild up to date with modern communication systems. Recent decisions on community transport will also mean the need for new ideas and working with other groups helping with transport.

If anyone is prepared to help and give something back to the town and district, and would like to know more please ring either myself on 01225 753489 (email johnandglayne@blueyonder.co.uk) or the guild office on 01225 752328. If you do join us, I can assure you of a very warm welcome from the committee dedicated to helping others and from the bus users.
