A TEAM from Grove Primary School, Trowbridge has won through to the national final of a St John Ambulance competition.

They won the regional round of the competition which took place at the Milestones Living History Museum in Basingstoke on Wednesday.

The contest, which was open to schools from Hampshire,Wiltshire, Dorset, Devon and the Isle of Wight, put pupils in realistic first aid scenarios.

Grove School pupils shone when they had to treat a leg wound, an asthma attack and a facial injury.

Gilly Boote, schools liaison officer with Wiltshire St John Ambulance, said: "The Grove School recently took part in the pilot scheme for St John Ambulance's new Young First Aider course which is due to be launched in September.

"The result of this regional schools competition is fantastic and is a testament to how well first aid can be taught by members of staff in schools."

Grove School now goes forward to the national finals which are scheduled to take place at London Zoo on Tuesday July 3.
