HOPING to inspire the young people of Trowbridge to become entrepreneurs, Jordan Daykin helped launch a programme to help youngsters be their own boss this week.

Go! Fish, which is the brainchild of Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce and Town Team, has been developed to help kids aged between 13-19 through a series of workshops to cover issues such as interview techniques, CV writing, marketing, business presentations and leadership skills.

At the launch event last week, patron of the programme Baroness Scott of Bybrook OBE said she was proud that it has been funded by Wiltshire Council.

She added: “The programme is a partnership between schools, parents, and local organisations and I am pleased that the Trowbridge Area Board has given £5,000 towards Go! Fish from Wiltshire Council.

“To have people like Jordan involved who has actually had the idea and created his business, might show other young people that they can do it as well.

“I left school at 16 with a few GCSEs and look where I have ended up. Life is about moving forward. If you get knocked down, get back up and dust yourself off. I am sure Jordan knows about this.”

Mr Daykin who was the youngest recipient of investment on Dragon’s Den is also on board and will sponsor the Young Entrepreneur of the Year with the winner receiving a prize.

He will be on the judging panel along with Office Evolution and Hitachi Commercial Vehicles.

The 20-year-old said: “When I was younger and starting my business as a young entrepreneur, there wasn’t much support around although later on in life you find the support, it was never accessible at that time.

“I’ve always said to set your personal and business goals and I think that is important to keep you driven every day. For me, my business goals was that I started the business with my grandad and so it’s always nice to go and see him every day and tell him what’s new in trying to grow GripIt in a global brand.”

Youngsters taking part will be able to go onto present their business ideas to the public at the Teenage Market in the town centre following the success of last year’s event. It is expected to take place at the end of May.
