FILM and TV director Paul Weiland OBE opened his Belcombe Court gardens to the public on Sunday, raising £6000 for the British Red Cross in the process.

More than 1,000 gardening enthusiasts poured into the Bradford on Avon site on Sunday afternoon to take in its pristine gardens

On top of being treated to the scenery, attendees were treated to stalls, musicians and bellringers in the charity fundraiser.

Chris Wynn, Community Fundraising Manager, said: “We would like to thank Mr and Mrs Weiland who so kindly allowed this event to take place, Jenny Napier-Smith and her garden team, all the stall holders and volunteers who helped on the day, as well as all the lovely visitors, without whom it would not have been a success.”

Back in 2010 comedian Ruby Wax and Mr Weiland, who directed romantic comedy Made of Honour, and TV programmes in the Mr Bean series, officially opened the garden at Belcombe Court, where more than 500 people explored the 50-acre site.

Rarely open to the public, Belcombe Court is a 15th century manor house and estate, lovingly restored by its owners.
