LIFE-long one-armed Middlesbrough FC fan Chris Joseph has had a bespoke ‘lucky’ glove made by Dents of Warminster.

The former chairman of the Middlesbrough Official Supporters Club has had the glove made for Boro’s new Premier League season, following their promotion from the Championship.

Mr Joseph, 58, lost his right arm in a gruesome industrial accident at an iron foundry in Stockton-on-Tees when he was 20 years old.

The advertising executive, from Norton in County Durham, said: “The glove cost the princely sum of £95 – an arm and a leg, you might say – but it’s worth every penny. I’ve always had a problem with buying a pair and chucking the other glove away.

“I am delighted with my Boro glove, not only is it lucky and practical, but as it’s hand-made, it fits like a glove too.

“Being a Boro fan isn’t always easy but I’m looking forward to wearing my special garment at every home match next season.

“I’m only going to wear it to matches so that it keeps that special feeling.

“I’ll keep my fingers crossed at matches – but not too tight, otherwise the stitching might perish.”

When the Dents Factory heard that Mr Joseph wanted a single hand-made glove to celebrate Boro’s promotion to the Premier League, they decided to line it with ‘Boro-red’ cashmere.

In a note to the avid supporter, the Dents team wrote ‘we hope your team does well in the Premier League.’

Dents, of Furnax Lane, who were established in 1777 and have a Royal Charter, which means they make gloves for members of the Royal Family, agreed to make the glove as a special one-off.
