WARMINSTER’S Get Wiltshire Walking group marked its fifth anniversary with a celebratory lunch on Tuesday, May 24.

Around 40 of the group's regular walkers were joined by Wiltshire Council’s Walk Coordinators Rosie Golding and Louise Gale for their weekly walk, before sitting down for a special lunch.

One of Warminster’s walk leaders Victoria Coombes said: “The event was very well received and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

“We have a great group in Warminster with a strong spirit of friendship among it. Lots of friends have been made within the group and it’s something we look forward to every Tuesday.

“It’s also amazing how we walk for an hour every week and never run out of new places to discover, there is plenty of wonderful countryside around here.”

For the group's anniversary walk, they walked down to the nature reserve in Smallbrook Meadows, located at the other end of the town’s park next to the River Wylye.

The lunch was organised by group walker Penelope Harrison who booked the venue and provided a buffet whilst the cake was supplied by Wiltshire Council’s Walk Coordinators.

Mrs Golding said: “This group is a wonderful asset to Get Wiltshire Walking and I am certain it will continue to go from strength to strength.”

The group is one of 24 across the county and part of the Get Wiltshire Walking scheme, a Public Health funded project aiming to ensure every community has access to a free weekly led walk.

The Warminster group meets at 9.30am every Tuesday outside the Community Hub in the central car park. New walkers are always welcome and more details are available from www.walkingforhealth.org.uk/getwiltshirewalking or 07917 599964.
