A MAN in his 40s has died this afternoon after apparently suffering a heart attack while at the wheel near Stoney Gutter.

The car he was driving, which was towing a caravan, was travelling southbound towards Yarnbrook when he veered across the road, crashing through the hedgerow, traveling 50m before it came to a stop.

It is understood the man is from Wales.

Seven police cars, two ambulances and Wiltshire Air Ambulance were at the scene.

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a patient possibly suffering a stroke or cardiac arrest at 3.50pm.

"Sadly, despite the efforts of ambulance personnel the patient was declared dead at the scene."

The A350 is currently closed from the Semington roundabout to Stoney Gutter with traffic being diverted through Trowbridge.

Police have warned the road will be closed for some time as an investigation takes place.
