A BERRY lovely day was had at the annual Fitzmaurice Strawberry Fair today (June 18) as hundreds got stuck into the fruitful festivities.

The Fitzmaurice School Association (FSA) organised the event, which has run for over 15 years, with the proceeds going to the Bradford on Avon school.

Attendees got to join in circus workshops, zumba classes, a one mile fun run, bungee runs, raffles, music, face painting and sporting competitions.

Year 6 pupil Orla said: "It has been really fun and lots of people have had a great time."

Headteacher Tracy Dunn added: "Once again, it has been fabulous, really find, happy, very busy and a tremendous team effort from everyone involved.

"The kids have had a thoroughly lovely time, the day has flown by. It is such a great community event with so many great things going on for people to enjoy."

This year pupils were asked to submit their best and most creative strawberry drawings, with the winner getting their design printed onto a bag that was handed out to every single child that goes to the school.

FSA member Ian Miller said: "It has been a resounding success. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and it has not disappointed, it has been brilliant.

"Cafe Yum Yum has been a huge hit again, the atmosphere was great, the place was buzzing - it is just a great community event."

One particularly popular addition to this year's event was a brigade of Storm Troopers that casually popped by to join in with the fun.

Vicki Mowatt, of Riverford Organic Food, said: "We sold organic strawberries, lots and lots of them - everything went really well.

"It was a great atmosphere here and although it was our first year here, we would love to come back again."

Each year, the FSA raises in excess of £13,000, with nearly half of that coming from the Strawberry Fair, which goes towards school trips, fun days, projects, equipment and learning tools among other things.

The FSA will now be working towards their next fundraising endeavours, including the town’s firework display in November.
