SPORTING fun was had by all at Trowbridge Park on Saturday for Active Trowbridge’s festival which aimed to showcase the best sports around.

The Active Festival, which is now in its sixth year, saw over 100 different sporting groups and organisations come together to give kids the opportunity to try out new games and see whether they want to take them up as a hobby.

Hayley Bell, Trowbridge Town Council’s leisure services manager said the turnout was bigger than ever before.

She added: “The amount of feedback we have had on our Facebook page has been brilliant. One comment which was lovely was one that said Trowbridge should be proud of Active Trowbridge and the contribution they give to the community.

“Parents said they had never seen anything like it before and the fact it was free meant that families could come along and try new things and only have to pay for food which was fantastic.

“We had something for every age and it was about engaging with the community.”

Throughout the day, kids were able to try a whole host of activities including extreme sports, BMX biking and climbing ropes while being entertained by live music on the bandstand.

Active Trowbridge’s Camp Fusion, which aims to encourage girls to get into sports, also welcomed the All Starz cheerleaders to the festival in hope of collaborating with each other in the future.

Miss Bell added: “Having the event over the weekend was perfect timing with the Olympics and Paralympics and it shows kids the excitement around sport and we hope the festival has motivated and inspired them to watch or play sports.

“By having Nathan Dyer, Rachel Bown and Stephanie Millward-Oliver as our ambassadors, we wanted to show children that their sporting dreams can happen and they can happen in Trowbridge. We are just a stepping stone for them to make it happen.”

Active Trowbridge are now planning next year’s event which will continue to be known as Active Festival.
