THE director of a technology recycling company has completed a bike ride from Wiltshire to the Black Sea in Ukraine.

Simon Barfoot, director of Warminster-based Blackmore Ricotech, travelled a mammoth 2,346 miles in 25 days.

He completed the challenge to celebrate the company’s 20th birthday as well as to raise money for Hopes and Homes for Children (HHC) and local man Nick Hole, who suffered a heart attack from an undiagnosed heart problem.

Mr Barfoot said: “I am thrilled to have completed my journey after nearly a month on the road. I am exhausted but very humbled and grateful for all the support I have received.

“I have travelled over 2,346 miles, with 188 hours pedalling and met so many people along the way who have welcomed me with open arms.

“I am now more driven than ever to raise as much money as possible making this journey all worthwhile.”

Mr Barfoot finished his journey on Friday, July 15, five days ahead of schedule and spent time with families and projects supported by HHC along the way, allowing him to see how the money he raised will make a difference.

Instead of completing the ride on a state-of-the-art tourer, the whole distance was completed on an old mountain bike which has since been gifted to a Ukrainian youth club.

He cycled through eight different countries along the way on his rusty bike, seeing parts of England, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.
