DESPITE having an A-Level in photography, Sheri O'Reilly didn't pick up a camera for years,

But her interest was rekindled when she began doing portrait shoots at the Timpson store where she works.

Now a keen member of the Trowbridge Camera Club, she has submitted five striking images to be considered by the judges of the VisitWiltshire photograph competition.

The first photograph she has submitted is called 'By the Lake' which was taken at Shearwater on a late spring afternoon.

"The sun was low in the sky and caused the shadows to elongate towards me," she said, thinking back to that afternoon.

"It was quite difficult as the sun is in the shot, but I think I've captured the beauty of the spring evening sunshine on the lake.

“The second picture was taken at Salisbury, when the Flying Scotsman came through. I just happened to be in Salisbury at the time, so I went along to the station. It was very crowded, but I did get some shots of her.

"I wanted a different interpretation of the train, which I'm pleased with. It's entitled 'Steam'."

Her third picture sees her travel form her home in Trowbridge to the new shopping centre in Bradford on Avon.

"I could see the old factory building reflected in a mirror and thought it would make an interesting image. It's called 'Reflections of Time'," she said.

“Picture four was taken at Imber on one of the open days. I call it 'Tank Cemetery'. I'm particularly drawn to old decaying things and I love the contrast of the rusty brown metal against the grassy meadows."

The fifth photo is called 'Reclaimed By Nature' and depicts the old abandoned house next to Adcroft Surgery in Trowbridge.

“I enjoy going out to old places and exploring, although I chickened out of going inside because I was on my own," said Sheri.

"I love capturing neglect and ruin as it can produce some very dramatic images, and something a bit different to flowers and insects.”

The competition will run right through the summer until September 30, and photographers can submit up to five photographs each month.

To be in with a chance of winning, the photos should capture the essence of life in Wiltshire, its people and landscape, and tie in with any of VisitWiltshire's four ‘Timeless’ themes. These are:

• Timeless Wonders: including Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury Cathedral, the Kennet & Avon Canal and Wiltshire’s White Horses

• Timeless Places: including market towns, villages and other attractions

• Timeless Pleasures: including shopping, food and drink, festivals & events, arts & entertainment

• Timeless Nature: including big skies, rolling hills, flora and fauna

There will be one first prize of a £300 voucher for the best photograph overall, plus two runners up prizes of a £50 voucher each.
