POLICE have pledged to continue their crackdown on drinking in Trowbridge in hope of also tackling antisocial behaviour in the town.

It was revealed last month that officers received more than 60 call-outs to incidents of drinking in a six week period and this week, PCSOs and PCs have been carrying out regular patrols in problem areas.

In many cases, action has been taken against anyone causing issues through the Designated Public Place Orders (DPPOs).

DPPOs help officers deal with the problems of alcohol related anti-social behaviour in public places, making it an offence to continue drinking when asked to stop by an officer.

As well as this, officers have been engaging with local stores and the community to ensure they are kept informed of the progress being made.

Inspector James Brain said: “We are still receiving reports from members of the public regarding the anti-social behaviour in Trowbridge town centre.

“We are continuing to work closely with our partner agencies and finding solutions to help us tackle these issues.

“Officers have been patrolling the key locations and taking positive action in terms of enforcement and prevention which include dispersal orders, confiscation, arrests and offering advice to those involved. As well as this, officers have also been offering reassurance to the public.

"This hard work doesn’t stop after this week, however. We will continue over the coming weeks and months to address the problems and the negative perception held by people within our community.”

Anyone with information relating to street drinkers in Trowbridge should call police on 101. In an emergency, dial 999.
