A WOMAN is on trial accused of supplying heroin to a Bradford on Avon man, which led to his death.

Hayley Beaven, 46, of Green Close, Holt, appeared at Swindon Crown Court today charged with supplying class A drugs to Lee Challenor, who died on May 3, 2015, from a drugs overdose. She pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Hannah Squire, prosecuting, told the court that on May 2, between 8.39 and 8.44pm, Hayley Beaven supplied Mr Challenor, of Grist Court, with the class A drug in Kingston Road by dropping it off in her silver Toyota Celica.

Jurors were told that Mr Challenor, 38, had been in contact with Beaven, who pleaded not guilty, 37 times between April 15 and May 2, according to data of their calls, texts and voicemails obtained by police.

She added that motion-activated CCTV evidence showed Mr Challenor coming out of his flat in Grist Court, then along Kingston Road where he met Beavan in her silver Toyota Celica between 8.39 and 8.44pm.

He then returned to the flat, going on to inject himself with the drug.

He died at the Royal United Hospital in Bath at 7.21pm on May 3 of an acute toxicity of morphine in his system.

A day after he died Beaven was asked about his death by police.

She was arrested on June 4 and according to Mrs Squire, Beaven denied that texts she made with Mr Challenor were about a drugs deal. She said it was about buying a mobile phone for her son.

Witness Lee Mansfield, who had known Mr Challenor for four months and was with him in his flat when he had a cardiac arrest, told the court that his "best friend" was looking to "score some heroin".

Mr Mansfield, who had known about his friend’s history of drug problems, went on to say how Mr Challenor was expecting a call from someone and appeared to be frustrated at the waiting time.

After receiving a call he left the flat and returned just over five minutes later with the drugs before heating them up and then injecting the heroin.

Mr Challenor then told Mr Mansfield to watch him in case he overdosed.

At 10.36pm Mr Mansfield called the emergency services while trying to resuscitate his friend until they arrived.

The case continues on Tuesday.
