DOROTHY House are hoping to get themselves in the world record books next month by trying to organise the largest gathering of people wearing boas at their Moonlight Walk.

The annual walk, to be held on September 10, is the Winsley-based hospice’s biggest fundraiser of the year and organisers hope their attempt will put the charity on a global map by being included in the Guinness World Records Book.

Now in its tenth year, the walk through the centre of Bath has been a huge success for the charity and last year it hosted over 1,000 entrants and raised over £120,000 towards continuing to support people with life-limiting illnesses.

Dorothy House’s family support services manager, Susanna Watson, who will be taking part in the 8km walk, said: “The Moonlight Walk is always a fantastic event, but this year all those feather boas are going to put Dorothy House on the international map and hopefully make us Guinness World Record Holders.”

The Moonlight Walk is an opportunity for many to walk in memory of a loved one, a colleague, a friend or family member, and in support of the work of Dorothy House who are celebrating their 40th birthday this year.

While the walk is a ladies only event, men have been guaranteed not be left out. Many husbands, sons, friends and partners who know someone participating in the event are also being encouraged to volunteer as a marshal throughout the night.

Brave competitors this year must be aged 14 or over and the route will start and finish at SouthGate in Bath from 10pm.

Entry is £17 per person and all entrants are asked to raise at least £40 in sponsorship or make a suggested donation of £40 in lieu of sponsorship for Dorothy House Hospice Care to help celebrate our 40th birthday.
