A GROUP of men who have managed to find a premises for a Men’s Shed in Trowbridge are appealing for unwanted tools.

Geoff West, Bryan Banfield and Bob Ayres have been spearheading the project and the shed, in a unit at the back of Andil House on Court Street, will soon be up and running.

But before next month's official launch, the men are looking for donations of good quality tools and furniture to spruce up the place.

Mr Ayres, who used to be a cartographer, said: “Quite a few people have turned up to help us turn this place around, which is a great help.

“I think once we have finished setting up the place, we will get some more people coming along because we have the space to accommodate them.

“We are now desperately on the lookout for tools.”

The shed will be a place, mainly for men over 50, to meet, socialise and pursue hobbies and interests such as woodworking, or to play games or just sit and chat. The men meet on Wednesdays from 9.15am-12pm.

Mr Ayres said: “There is a guy at the shed who is a full-time carer for his wife and these three hours offer him a break from his normal routine."

“They can bring their own things along to work on and, in the future, depending on how many people we get, we might do some community work for groups who need things repairing.”
