ROADS into and out of Trowbridge are gridlocked this morning as commuters heading for the county town felt the full impact of the closure of the A361 between Semington roundabout and the Paxcroft roundabout near Trowbridge rugby club.

Long queues were reported through Staverton and Hilperton, with traffic backing up before 8am along Hammond Way and Canal Road, as drivers heading for Melksham, Chippenham and Devizes took the alternative route.

Bradley Road also experienced traffic queues due to the volume of traffic.

The road is due to be closed all week for resurfacing.

Wiltshire Council's official diversion route takes motorists to Yarnbrook to join the A363 which has been put in place to accommodate HGV lorries.

However, drivers can also reach Trowbridge by leaving the A350 at Stoney Gutter or West Ashton.
