DILTON Marsh residents can now post letters and buy stamps with ease thanks to the opening of a brand new Post Office in the village.

The Post Office is located in the corner of Fairfield Farm College's shop and will be open seven days a week, allowing villagers to carry out their postal needs without having to travel to neighbouring towns.

On Tuesday (September 27) representatives from the college, students, Cllr Jerry Wickham and Westbury’s Community Engagement Manager, Liam Cripps, officially opened it to the public.

Debbie Farley, vice-principal and branch manager, said: “It took a lot of work to get to where we are today but we’re really pleased as it adds another string to the college’s bow and will provide a valuable service to the village.

“It’s a historic initiative which has been in the planning for a long time.

“A trustee of the college thought it would be a good idea to open a Post Office at the college after the village’s previous one closed as we are such an integral part of the community with our shop and cafe.

“All of the money it generates will be reinvested back into the college.”

The service will be a ‘post office local’ which means it will provide most services a normal post office would but services such as foreign currency need to be ordered in advance.

Cllr Jerry Wickham said: “When I was elected as councillor I was very determined to get a Post Office in the community after the last one closed, so I'm delighted we have been able to do so.

“Lots of people depend on post offices and they are an important part of every community.

“There have been several delays but we’re glad to finally have it open.

“It will serve the whole community - I really hope that people will use it as much as possible.”
