A COMBINATION of intoxication and frustration led to Daryl Bradbury smashing the windows of a police car before he was found hiding in a bush, a court has heard.
The 42-year-old, of Frobisher Drive, got into a row with his partner at Stratford Close, Toothill, on October 28, when a neighbour alerted police who asked Bradbury to leave.
However, Bradbury did not take kindly to the request, Swindon Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday, and in a spur of the moment decision took his anger out of the windows of the police officers’ car before fleeing.
“He realised immediately how utterly stupid it was to do that,” his defence solicitor Gordon Hotson told the magistrates.
“Police sent him on his way home but he had no means of getting there on foot. He accepted that he did it out of frustration with the police at what might have been a sensible thing.
“Instead of legging it as far as he could, he waited in a bush waiting for the police to come and find him. He was highly intoxicated.”
Magistrates fined Bradbury £235, of which £150 is compensation to Wiltshire Police.
