ONE of Trowbridge’s most popular charity shops celebrated its 21st birthday on Tuesday with a raffle and cake.

CLIC Sargent, in Fore Street, has been running for over two decades thanks to donations from members of the public and a team of dedicated volunteers.

Shop manager Kate Jones, 48, who has run the store for 11 years, said: “We had a really nice afternoon, there was a huge cake and lots of the volunteers were there.

“We have a big get together will all our volunteers every year but this was our first ever birthday party and it was great fun.

“All of our volunteers are fantastic and the support of local people is also brilliant.”

Margaret Conlon has been volunteering at the shop ever since it opened.

She said: “I’m really proud to be a part of ‘Team CLIC Sargent’ and have loved every minute of volunteering here – I can’t believe it’s been 21 years.

“I’ve seen first-hand the difference the charity makes to the lives of children and young people with cancer and their families. It feel great to be doing my bit to help this amazing charity reach those families.”

The shop sells second hand clothes, electrical items, CDs and more and raises money to support families of children with cancer

Mayor of Trowbridge, councillor Linda Self, said: “It is an honour to share in the 21st birthday celebrations of CLIC Sargent and we are very lucky to have such a dedicated team in Trowbridge.

“I wish them many continued years of success providing a much needed service to our local community.”
