TWO YOUNG boys from Trowbridge have decided to help out the needy by donating to Trowbridge Food Bank over the course of the Christmas month.

Instead of spending their pocket money they had earned over November, JJ and Shayne Smith, 7 and 5 respectively, decided to scrimp and save and make a generous donation to the Trowbridge Food Bank. The Grove pupils visited Chris Neighbour at the food bank in Church Street on Saturday (December 3) to drop off their impressive haul.

Mother Kayleigh Eaton, 31, said: "It was their idea, it is really great to see that they are thinking of other people. Over the whole of November they saved their pocket money they would get from cleaning their rooms and they used that to buy the food to donate at the food bank. They were both very excited to donate their collection, Chris at the food bank also sat them down and told them about where their donations would be going."

The boys were very happy to make the generous offering to Mr Neighbour at the bank, realising how much it will help to those who need it in the local area.

JJ said: "I am really happy, we did it because I thought that some people don't have homes so we did a hamper with tinned food. We also gave them a tin opener as they might not have one."

Shayne added: "It felt good to take the food there."

The boys collected 34 items of food for the bank, ensuring that those in need will not have to go without during the Christmas period.

Chris Neighbour, of the Trowbridge Food Bank, said: β€œIt’s wonderful that these two young lads decided to donate to the food bank and help others instead of having their advent calendars. From what I understand, the two boys decided to do this all on their own after seeing other people doing similar things on the internet.”
