WARMINSTER Town may have proven a match for Toolstation First Division high-flyers Cheddar but boss Mark Breffit felt two points slipped from their grasp.

The third-placed Cheesemen led at the break at Weymouth Street but Warminster were much improved after the interval and Jack Miluk hauled them level.

Warminster then had chances to take the lead but Mark Robinson and Francois Allen failed to make the most of the opportunities that were presented to them.

“In the first half when we were 1-0 down I would have taken the draw, and I would have taken it before the game too, to be honest, as they are a good side,” said Breffit.

“We improved a lot in the second half and I think in the end we were unlucky not to win. We missed two good chances at 1-1 that would have put us in control.

“I’m disappointed not to win the game but I am proud of the lads in the way they fought back, it was a really encouraging performance.

“Jack’s goal was a bit scrappy, he just bundled it in on the line. It was nice to score a typical Western League goal for a change, most of the goals we score are because of bits of really nice play so it was nice to get one where we didn’t really have to do a lot.”

Although pleased with the performance against Cheddar, Warminster remain without a league win in more than a month and have picked up just two points from the last four games.

They head into Christmas down in 14th in the table but boss Breffit is expecting them to kick on after the turn of the year.

“Our form has been patchy. We went on a good run where we won five and since then I wouldn’t say we had a dip, we just haven’t had the results we deserve,” said Breffit.

“I am encouraged for the second half of the season and I know we have got the players in the squad to push ourselves up the table as we want to finish in the top half.”

Elsewhere, Corsham Town also had to make do with a point as a late Keynsham Town equaliser saw them held 1-1 at the Southbank.

After a goalless first half, Levi Cox broke the deadlock for Nigel Tripp’s side only for Sam Duggan to peg them back with three minutes left.

It was a pointless weekend for Westbury United as they were beaten 3-0 when they welcomed leaders Wellington to Meadow Lane.

James Goddard’s United next play host near neighbours Warminster in a Boxing Day derby, while Corsham also face a county rival in a trip to Devizes Town.
