WARMINSTER and District RUH Fundraising Group celebrated a positive four years of fundraising for The Forever Friends Appeal’s RUH Cancer Care Campaign by donating £9,045 to the cause.

The group members, who have all been affected by cancer in many different ways, came together to raise money for a new Cancer Centre at the Bath hospital, which will improve the quality of care delivered there.

So far the Forever Friends Appeal has raised £7.7 million of the £8.5 million target, which will fund the innovative new centre where patients and their families will be treated in a holistic environment.

Nikki Spreadbury Clews, chairman of the Warminster fundraising group, said: “We are a really friendly group who have great fun whilst raising funds for a cause close to our hearts.

“Our famous pig races have proved really popular and are available to hire. Whether it’s for a private event or your own fundraising, please contact us for more information."

The Warminster group has raised a total of £40,420 for appeal through a range of different events and activities, from discos and balls to Christmas market stalls.

One of the group’s wackiest and most successful activities for fundraising is pig racing, where people race toy pigs against each other and place bets.

Claudia Hickin, community fundraiser for the Forever Friends Appeal, said: “The Warminster and District RUH Fundraising Group are the most inspirational group of people who have all been touched by cancer in some way and want to give back to the local community.

“The group’s next target is to raise a total of £50,000 for the Cancer Care Campaign to make the new centre the best it can be for patients and their families for generations to come.”

The Warminster and District RUH Fundraising Group meets monthly and is always looking for volunteers to join them and help with the cause.
