A TEAM from Box Steam Brewery in Holt helped beat the Monday blues by teaming up with a number of comedians, bringing laughter to the streets of Bristol.

In a bid to beat the dreaded Blue Monday, dubbed the most miserable day of the year, Box Steam Brewery hosted three comedy tents in Bristol on Monday evening (January 16), each with three Bristolian comedians.

Andy Roberts, owner of the Box Steam Brewery, said: “This time of year is a downer for almost everyone. But we want everyone to down a beer and have a laugh instead. As a brewery, we’re in the business of raising people’s spirits, so we’re answering the call for a little happiness on the streets of Bristol.”

A first for the brewery, the comedy evening also gave Box Steam the chance to hand out free tasters of Golden Bolt to the public.

Dom Lane, 47, spokesman for the brewery, said: “We came up with the idea over Christmas and it went down really well, what’s not to like about comedy and free beer? We had three sites across Bristol city centre- the Victoria Rooms, Haymarket and Pero’s Bridge. We teamed up with Bristol promoter Bubble Comedy, so we had three comedians at each tent giving a 20 minute performance each, they were fantastic.”

After the success of the event on Monday, the brewery hopes that it will be able to host similar evenings in the near future.

“We would love to have a go at doing it again, we have Boxfest this summer which will give us the chance to add more comedians to our roster. It is just something that will make people smile,” added Mr Lane.
