THE Mead Academy Trust has received a grant of £2,500 as a contribution towards the creation of a standalone art studio for pupils of The Mead Primary School and the local community.

The trust was one of nine to be awarded a grant by Bath Theatre Royal's Creative Trust from 80 that applied within a 20-mile radius of the theatre, at a ceremony held at the Ustinov Studio in Bath last Tuesday.

Rebekah Searle, chairman of The Friends of The Mead, said: "We are grateful to the Theatre Royal Bath Creative Fund for selecting our school to receive this grant.

“This money, as well as money raised by The Friends, will allow us to provide a fun, safe and creative space for both the children and the community."

The Creative Fund was established in 2015 through the activities of Theatre Royal Bath Productions, the Theatre Royal's own production company, which has presented shows in the West End, on national tours and overseas for the past nineteen years.

The fund is open to organisations working in all forms of the Arts within a 20 mile radius of the Theatre Royal.

Theatre Royal director Danny Moar said: “We’ve been overwhelmed once again with the interest in the Creative Fund, and thrilled that we have been able to support arts development in Bath and the surrounding area for a second year.

“We look forward to working with these successful organisations over the next twelve months as they continue to enhance provision for the Arts across the amateur, professional and community spectrum.”

The cheque was presented to representatives of the trust by Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis.
