PLANS have been submitted to build 30 residential apartments overlooking Trowbridge Town Park.

Trowbridge Town Council is working with property owners TC Sports Ltd on the project, which they believe will improve the area.

If plans are approved, the former textiles mill at St George’s Works, just off Silver Street, will be demolished to make way for 30 new flats which overlook the park, as well as parking spaces and a new storage building.

Terry Sims, of TC Sports, said: “This planning application proposal will inject new life and vitality to St Georges Works, and will bring vacant buildings back into use alongside replacement new build development.

“The existing businesses located at St George’s Works will remain in situ, and will benefit from the environmental enhancements associated with this comprehensive proposal, which we have developed collaboratively with the town council.”

The development will also facilitate the provision of a new access route into the park for maintenance vehicles and event vehicles while garages and outbuildings at the back of the bandstand will be replaced with maintenance and storage facilities.

Trowbridge mayor, Cllr Linda Self, said: “This is an excellent proposal which improves the north side of our wonderful town park, brings more people to live in the town centre, improves our local facilities and enhances the park for all our residents and visitors.”
