PUBLIC consultations are being held to give residents an opportunity to view plans of the major A303 scheme, which could see a tunnel being built as part of a £2 billion investment.

A consultation will take place at Grove Hall in Mere from 11am and 5pm on Saturday, February 4 and there is also one lined up at Antrobus House in Amesbury between 2pm and 8pm on Wednesday, February 8.

Highways England has been investigating options for improving the 7.5 mile section of the A303 between Amesbury and Berwick Down, past the World Heritage Site.

In order to progress with the scheme, Highways England has been looking at solutions to address the congestion problems along this section of the road.

A major international report published in May last year concluded that a tunnel could benefit Stonehenge if the scheme is well designed and constructed.

However concerns about archaeology in the area and light pollution from the tunnel entrances have been raised.

At the consultations members of the public will be able to view plans and ask the Highways England team questions.
