TROWBRIDGE RFC head coach Dan Jeffries believes momentum is with the Doric Park club as they target league glory in the second half of the season.

Saturday’s 43-20 home victory over Marlborough wrapped up a fifth successive victory for Jeffries’ side, who have overcome an average start to the campaign to storm up the Southern Counties South table.

With eight games to go, Trowbridge lie just three points off top spot in their quest to bounce straight back into the South West One East division from which they were relegated last term.

Five of those contests are away from home but, significantly, only two of them are against fellow promotion rivals, leaving Jeffries with cause for optimism that his men can get the job done.

Trowbridge have been in something of a lull from their glorious 2013-14 season, which saw them promoted via a play-off from Southern Counties South and memorably lift the RFU Intermediate Cup at Twickenham under former chief Steve Ojomoh, but the current head coach reckons that could be about to change.

“We’ve got a good run in to the end of the season now so we’re feeling pretty good about it,’’ said Jeffries, pictured right.

“If you look at the games we have got left, (second-placed) Wimborne away (March 11) obviously stands out.

“That game will be huge for us, but we will be upset if we drop too many more points than that in the other games that we have.

“The are games which we should be capable of winning and momentum is very much on our side at the moment.’’ With one team automatically promoted and the second-placed team heading into a promotion play-off at the end of the season, Trowbridge have plenty to play for during the run-in and Jeffries believes a boosting of squad strength could be crucial to their hopes.

Twickenham hero Jackson Szabo is one of those on the comeback trail for the club and Jeffries added: “We’ve looked at the strength of the squad and there is competition for places there now, so we are seeing the benefits.

“Things are going in a good direction for the club, with the second team pushing at the top of their league (Dorset & Wilts Two North) and we also put out four sides last weekend, which is a great sign.

“Hopefully, what we are doing means Trowbridge is a place that people want to come and play at and that can only be good.’’
