A RECENT spate of burglaries in Trowbridge and Hilperton is showing no signs of slowing down after six sheds and garages were targeted overnight last week, with a number of valuable items being stolen.

The first of the six incidents to hit the area where Trowbridge and Hilperton meet on Wednesday (February 1) came when an attempt was made to break into a shed in Ferris Way, Hilperton, at around 4am, but nothing was taken.

Soon after that an Acer tablet and bank cards were stolen from an Audi A4 parked in a garage in Oxford Gardens, adjacent to Ferris Way, at around 4.30am after the garage door had been forced open.

Also in Ferris Way, at around 6.30am, another shed as forced open but it is not known if anything was taken.

Around the same time the glovebox of a car parked in Springfield Park, Trowbridge, was opened and searched after the garage door had been forced open but nothing was taken.

In nearby Victoria Gardens four push bikes were stolen from a garage at around 7.30am, before a shed was broken into in Cleveland Gardens at around 8am, where it is unknown if anything was taken.

Community Policing Team Inspector James Brain said: “Despite numerous warnings and advice to members of the public, we are continuing to hear reports of valuables being stolen from vehicles.

“It is so important that motorists are vigilant to help prevent becoming a victim. A thief only needs a few seconds to steal your belongings and leaving them on display is an invitation to opportunist thieves who will strike anywhere and at any time."

Police also advise using strong locks on garages and sheds as cheap ones are easy to force off.

Hilperton Parish Council chairman, Ernie Clerk, said: "This recent spate doesn't just concern me but everyone in the area.

"It will show no signs of slowing down either unless there are more bobbies on the beat, but that's not going to happen anytime soon."

Call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 11 if you have any information on the above incidents or to report one.
