THE man who died outside of a Trowbridge supermarket has now been identified by Wiltshire Police.

Kieren Church, aged 30 of no fixed address, died at around 3:00pm on Thursday (February 9) afternoon, in The Shires car park, near Asda.

Kieren's family paid tribute, saying: "Kieren was a much loved son, brother, grandson and friend to many. He will be sadly missed."

The 20 year old security guard from Trowbridge who tackled Kieren, who was suspected of shoplifting, has been released on bail pending further enquiry.

The man arrested is a security guard from a local store and tackled Kieran, believing him to be a suspected shoplifter. He fell to the ground, causing a number of glass bottles he was concealing to smash. Keiren suffered significant injuries and despite the best efforts from paramedics, Kieran died at the scene.

DCI Jeremy Carter said: "The man arrested is a security guard from a local store. He tackled the suspected shoplifter causing a number of glass bottles he was concealing to smash.

"This caused a significant injury to the man, who despite the best efforts from paramedics, sadly died."

At a press conference today at the scene of the crime, DCI Carter said: "The man who died is believed to have connections with Wiltshire but is possibly from Cornwall.

"Just after 3pm yesterday the police were called to the shopping centre to reports of an altercation between a security guard and a member of the public. As a result a man has died."

Sarah-Louise Moore, centre manager of The Shires, has confirmed that none of the staff from the shopping centre were involved in the incident.

"I can categorically say that no security staff from The Shires were involved with the incident yesterday apart from to assist police and ambulance crews. Contracted or not contracted, our security were not involved. The incident took place on the land belonging to Asda," she said.

Police and ambulance crews were called out to The Shires car park in Bythesea Road just after 3pm on Thursday to reports of a man being seriously injured following an incident with another man.

"There was a significant attempt from the emergency services to save the man's life," continued DCI Carter.

"A post-mortem is due to be carried out to find the cause of death. We are examining the CCTV footage from the area and appealing for witnesses. It was a very busy time with people leaving school and shopping. Anyone who may have information are asked to call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers."

Asda has confirmed that no member of staff was involved in the incident.

DCI Carter added: "The security guard was from a shop in the area, that is all we can say at this time."
