TROWBRIDGE Town Council representatives got stuck in with a bag pack at Tesco on Sunday to raise money for the mayor’s two chosen charities.

Six members of council staff and a manager from Tesco will take on the Three Peaks Challenge on April 27 which will see them trek to the summits of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in the space of three days.

By helping out shoppers with their packing on Sunday an impressive £805 was raised towards the overall total, which now stands at £1,300.

Penelope Taylor, customer service assistant, said: “We had to count the money raised twice because we couldn’t believe it the first time; we raised far more than we expected.

“It was a great community event involving a lot of people and it was so nice to see the community support us so much.

“We had our first training walk on Saturday at Wardour Castle near Tisbury. We’re all active people so we should be okay on the challenge and we’re all looking forward to it.”

Taking on the challenge alongside Mrs Taylor will be customer services manager Aby Cooper, direct services supervisor Carl Maddox, museum manager David Birks, tourist information centre manager Mike Holden, leisure services manager Hayley Bell and Trowbridge Tesco manager Patrick Piercy.

The money raised by completing the Three Peaks Challenge will be handed to Alzheimer’s Support and Breakthrough Trowbridge, which were chosen by mayor Linda Self.

She said: “It was a really excellent day. To raise that amount was fantastic and is proof that the people of Trowbridge are more than happy to get behind a good cause.

“A big thank you must go to Tesco who were very accommodating and held a tombola and to Holbrook Primary School, who helped us with the packing.

“The money raised is going towards two fantastic charities which both carry out vital work in the area so it would be great if more can be raised between now and the challenge.”
