A NEW children's bookshop in Melksham has now opened its doors to the younger generation of eager readers in the town.

Bookasaurus, an offshoot of the local comic book shop Comix in The Roundhouse, Church Street, opened its doors to the public on Saturday (March 4), welcoming children and parents alike to explore the new stock of story books.

Miss Spencer, 31, of Blackmore Road, said: “It was really busy on the day, it was great to see so many new people come along as well as seeing the comic book regulars bringing their families in. We easily had over 100 people come to the opening over the course of the day, it was quite overwhelming.

“The response we have had already is wonderful, I am really excited about the shop now being open for the public.”

The new children’s section on the first floor now stocks a range of classic tales as well as some of the newer titles.

“We have books from when I was a child so parents come in and see them and also remember them from when they were younger. The upstairs has astroturf and foliage and we are also getting toadstool seats so the children can enjoy choosing a book. The aim is to make reading fun but also to make choosing a book fun as well,” Miss Spencer added.

As well as the new surroundings and books, Bookasaurus also welcomed special guest illustrator Jess Bradley.

“It was lovely to have Jess in, she has also done illustrating for comics so I have known her for a number of years. She brought in some of her how-to books which she signed and then she also left a number of souvenirs. Anyone who comes in during the week will be able to grab a couple of free goodies,” Miss Spencer said.

Bookasaurus is now open from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am-4pm on the first floor of Comix in The Roundhouse, Church Street.
