TROWBRIDGE youngsters keen to be the next Olympic triathlon champions are calling on local businesses to help them in their quest.
The Trowbridge Hot Chilli Triathlon Club is recruiting youngsters from the town and the surrounding area, but equipment costs are acting as a barrier for young hopefuls.
Now the club is offering local firms the chance to sponsor them so it can purchase wetsuits, bikes and running kit.
The club is volunteer-led and gives youngsters the chance to build their fitness, compete, learn about the importance of good nutrition and team building.
Head coach Richard Smith said: “Triathlon is a wonderful discipline and great training for young people, but it can be a little costly at the start.
“I want to ensure that any child who wants to compete can, but that means we need a little help with costs. I’m sure there must be other fitness fans out there running businesses who would like to give the next generation a chance.
“Who knows, maybe the next Alistair and Jonathan Brownlees are out there in Trowbridge waiting to be discovered.”
In a typical Sunday session the youngsters get coached in running, cycling and swimming and also transitioning skills between the three disciplines.
There are currently 22 youngsters in the club aged eight to 16.
The club’s aim is to make triathlon an inclusive sport for all. Membership to the club is just £20 per year and they are working hard to obtain club discounts.
