A KEEN gardener from Bradford on Avon is delighted after being crowed the winner of this year’s Mothering Sunday competition, run by the Wiltshire Times.

Sandra Radwell, 70, was nominated by her daughter Karen Tunnell and is now looking forward to spending the £100 cash prize at Avonfield Gardens in Marsh Road, Hilperton.

Mrs Radwell said: “It feels fabulous to win.

“I love gardening and I always go to the garden centre to buy various bits.

“Saturday afternoon is my weekly therapy session visiting the garden centre because I love my flowers and shrubs and I'm always trying to improve the garden.

“By the time I've spent the £100 the garden is going to look like something from the Chelsea Flower Show and I can’t wait.”

Mrs Radwell, of Ashley Close, has six children and eight grandchildren, which has given her ‘plenty of experience’ when it comes to being a mum.

Mrs Tunnell said: “My mum is so chuffed to have won this. I nominated her because she absolutely loves her garden and spends a lot of money each year making it look beautiful, so these vouchers will be very handy.

“It pays off for her because she gets Lots of lovely comments from people saying how wonderful her garden looks.”

Co-director of the garden centre, Matthew Webb, said: “Sandra is a real character. She’s been visiting since the very first day we opened and we love it when she pops in.

“She loves her gardening but can get carried away with pruning – I think she wants to spend the money on shrubbery as she got carried away pruning her old shrubs."
