TWO respite homes in Lacock and Melksham which provide care for young adults with disabilities could soon close unless the company can find a buyer to help continue the service.

Quarriers, one of Scotland’s largest social care charities, runs both Haresfield Residential Care in Corsham Road, Lacock, and The Paddocks in Melksham, but could be seeing the closure of both buildings due to financial losses.

A spokesperson for Quarriers said: “A comprehensive review of Quarriers has identified that the Charity’s services in England have been incurring continued financial losses. Quarriers is unable to sustain this financial position and is currently consulting with staff regarding withdrawal of Quarriers Haresfield and The Paddocks Services by the end of September 2017.

“In total, Quarriers is currently consulting on the closure of its five services in England located in Wiltshire, Bath and North East Somerset, the North East and Swindon.”

The statement from Quarriers stresses the need to figure out all possible options before a decision is made to close the homes.

“During this consultation period, Quarriers is committed to working with commissioners or other interested parties with the intention of transferring the service to an alternative provider. If this is not possible, Quarriers will withdraw from the service by the end of September 2017 and all staff employed will be at risk of redundancy. Staff have been advised of this,” the statement continues.

“Quarriers is committed to working in conjunction with local commissioners and partners to ensure the families who may be affected continue to receive the highest quality care and continuity of support.

“For the staff who may be affected, Quarriers operates a redeployment policy and wherever possible we will look to redeploy staff to minimise redundancies. The staff currently within this service will have dedicated contact with Quarriers HR Department and will have 24-hour access to our confidential Employee Assistance Programme.”

A spokesman from Wiltshire Council said: "We are working with our partners to ensure any disruption caused by the withdrawal of Quarriers’ services in Wiltshire is kept to a minimum. We have been liaising with the children and their families to find suitable, alternative services.”
