SCARE tours and sci-fi were on the agenda on Saturday as Trowbridge Town Hall was transformed into a haunted mansion for the day.

The spooktacular event featured 14 scare tours in the cellar of the hall complete with actors who dressed up in creepy costumes and donned menacing makeup before jumping out at those who dared to venture into the dungeon.

There was also a virtual reality area where people could try out VR headsets, stands selling sci-fi merchandise and an area where children could interact with creepy crawlies.

Organiser Russ Ellingham, of Norte Promotions, said: “In terms of the feedback we received it couldn’t have gone much better.

“The scare tours were a huge success and we’re thinking about running some more at the town hall later this year around Halloween.

“All of them were pretty much fully booked and the rest of the event was busy too.

“Our aim was to scare people and it worked so we’re delighted.”

Tracy Young, 42, went with her four children, Cheyenne, 22, Kira, 17, Cameron, 12, and Eva, 11, in the afternoon.

Mrs Young, of Queens Road, said: “It was absolutely brilliant, there was so much to see and do, especially for only £2 each.

“My kids loved it and so did I. We especially liked the scare tours but Kira and Cameron found it a little bit too scary and had to say the magic word to let them out.

“The costumes and makeup were awesome, it was clear that a lot of work went into organising it.

“I definitely think there should be more events like this in Trowbridge and across Wiltshire, they’re great at bringing the family together.”

In the evening there was an 18+ performance featuring burlesque and gorlesque which Mr Ellingham also labelled a success.

Lydia Salter, 24, from Bratton, said: “I went with a few friends as we were looking for something to do and we all thought it was great.

“It was very well organised and a lot of thought had clearly gone into it – if they organise another one I think we’ll have to come back.”
