MEMBERS of Frome Rotary Club and their families sampled cuisine from all corners of the globe on Saturday with a world cuisine evening to raise money for charity.

Eight Rotarians, their family members and guests, which brought the total of diners up to 80 people, enjoyed sampling food from Scandinavia, Mexico, India and Malaysia that had been prepared by Rotary members.

The evening raised over £1,000 which will be used by the club to support the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, Clic Sargent and other charities supported by the club.

Organiser Yvonne Hitchinson said: “It was a really excellent evening and we were delighted to raise that amount.

“The food was excellent and there was a really nice atmosphere.”

Frome Selwood Rotary Club has raised over £11,000 for charity this year with a diverse range of events including a folk music concert, choral evening, cheese and wine tasting, Rotary shop, wine tasting and music hall evening.

Charities that have benefitted from the funds raised include Frome Day Centre, YMCA, the Gateway Club and Shelterbox.

The club has also linked with Somerset Community Foundation to provide extra winter heating allowances for the elderly of Frome.

The next planned event by the club is a musical evening with Morag McLaren at Cooper Hall on Thursday, May 25.
