CUBS, Scouts and their leaders across west Wiltshire have been busy recently, after 98 cubs took part in an Activity/Challenge Camp at the PGL Liddington camp near Swindon.

Eight packs, with 18 leaders, enjoyed the very active Robo Wars before settling down for their first night. There were eight activity zones to take part in over the weekend, described by Cubs as ‘awesome’, ‘epic’ and ‘cool’.

The highlight for most Cubs was the zip wire and quad biking but the other events of archery, abseiling, challenge course, aeroball, crate stacking, sports and games, tunnel trail and Jacobs ladder were undertaken with great enthusiasm.

The weekend encouraged the Cubs to work as a team and gave them the opportunity to try new things. There was even a couple of birthdays celebrated on the camp, and they left thoroughly exhausted, full of excellent food and having had a fantastic time.

The 2017 district Annual Karting Competition was a triumph for the Broughton Gifford and Holt Scouts, with Chariot on Fire winning the overall timed trials and also setting a new course record and The Coffin Dodgers winning the constructors’ championship.

Chariot of Fire set a course record over 300 metres of 128 seconds, which is equivalent to a speed of 8.6 miles an hour - not bad for a set of recycled pram wheels.

The fastest of the two Cub teams was the Foxes Favourites, with Toby, Joe and Taran from 1st Mere Pack.

The fastest of the two Explorer teams was Cool Running, with George, Corey and Alice from Warminster.

The fastest of the eight Scout teams was Chariot on Fire from Broughton Gifford and Holt, with Moonrakers from Warminster second, and Fiery Falcons from Bradford on Avon third.

The Eric Davis trophy was presented to Broughton Gifford, and certificates to all the winning teams.
