MORE than £600 has been raised for Stepping Stones Opportunity Group after the family of a woman who used to work there asked people for donations in her memory.

Ann Taylor worked at the Trowbridge nursery, which helps children with special needs and their families, in the 1990s when it was based at Polebarn Road.

She died in February aged 71 after losing a 17-month fight with ovarian cancer.

Before her funeral her three sons, Steven, James and Jonathon, asked friends and relatives to make donations to the nursery and £681 was collected.

Steven, 38, said: “We put notices in the Wiltshire Times and Bristol Post to let people know that we wanted donations before the funeral.

“We’re not sure how many people donated but it must have been around 60, which is great. She would have been very happy to see that amount raised for the nursery.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone. It’s for a great cause and it’s a nice way of allowing her legacy to continue."

The cheque presentation on Wednesday was attended by 29-year-old Steven Wilcox, who was at Stepping Stones when Mrs Taylor worked there in 1991, as he wanted to pay his respects.

Mrs Taylor’s funeral took place at St John’s Church in Upper Studley before a gathering at her house in Bradley Road, Trowbridge.

Barbara Jansen, administrator at Stepping Stones, said: “She was a very lovely person and a very well-liked member of staff at Stepping Stones.

“It’s so lovely to know that she enjoyed working at Stepping Stones so much and brilliant that her family decided to use her funeral to raise money for us, it shows how much it meant to her."
